Client Software

Clients, if you are not already aware, are programs through which one may play MU*s (or connect to other telnet utilities).

The two most popular seem to be zMUD and Mushclient, although both require knowledge of scripting to make full use of their abilities. zMUD is known for mapping functionality and color logging; Mushclient is the faster of the two.

CMUD is from the makers of zMud and is a modernized version of the program, designed specifically to run on a Windows XP system. It can do anything zMud can and you can import your aliases, scripts, variables, etc., for an easy upgrade.

GMUD is a lean, efficient client. Good for people who prefer efficiency over bells and whistles, GMUD is also practical for those who use multiple computers, being small enough to email to yourself and use anywhere.

SimpleMU also has a significant number of users. It does not use scripts, but has a decent set of features specific to it. The large buffer and easy cut/paste system make it a strong client for RPers.

Our own Castamir developed KBtin for Linux/Unix systems.

Rapscallion is one of the few Mac clients. It is no longer supported by the creator, but it's free now.

TinyFugue works on either Unix-like or Windows systems.

wxMUD is a great cross platform MUD client that offers scripting and other features in a very lightweight and compact design.

We recommend against using the default Windows telnet application, or attempting to use the Java connect as your main means of access. If you do, you will be at a distinct disadvantage. (If you are not familiar with client software, think of it like this--how would you like an unlimited number of triggers and aliases?)
