There are many different types of sapient life in Arda; those with their own language and culture are called a Race. Some races can be selected by players for their characters; some are not allowed due to the need for a fair balance of play between users.

Elves, the Firstborn, are divided into three main groups: those who journeyed into the Lands of the West, those who remained, and those who settled in-between. They are undying, unless they are slain or die of grief or weariness.

The creation of Aulë, naming themselves "Khazad", the dwarves are called such for being shorter and stockier than Men or Elves.
